Matth. xxii. 37/38; 39. 40. Jefus faid unto him,
Thou (halt love the Lord thy God with all thy
heart, and with all thy foul, and with all thy mind.
This is the firft and great commandment. And
the fecond is like unto it, Thou flialt love thy
neighbour as thyfelf. On thefe two command-
ments hang all the law and the prophets.
Q. What do you mean by loving God with all
your heart ?
A. To love God with all my heart, is to have the
hìgheft and belt thoughts of hisi j to delire his fa-
vour above .all things, and delight to pleafe hioi
always.
Neh. ix. 5. Thy glorious name is exalted above
all bleffing and praife. Pfal. Ixxiii. 25. Whom
have 1 in heaven but thee ? and there is none upon
earth that I defire befide thee. Pfal. lxiii. 3- Thy
loving-kindnefs is better than life. Pfal. xi. 8. I
delight to do thy will. O my God : yea, thy Jaw
is within, my heart.
Q. How muft yon fhew your love to
God ?
A. By thefe three things. 1. By paying him
conftantly the worfhip that he requires of me.
2. By doing heartily whatfoever elfe he commands
me. 3. By bearing patiently what he fuffers to
befal me.
Note, Wherefoever the anfwer is divided into parts by fi-
gures, (1.) (a.) (3.) the teacher may repeat the question at every
figure, and thus make the child's anfwer more eai'y : as Q^What

compendium, or fhort view of religion.
