TO THE READER.
It was once intended to have perfixed to this
edition of the following Gaelic Poems and Songs,
a particular account of the Life of the Author j
but as a gentleman of learning and abilities has
already undertaken that task in another form—
shall subjoin, at the Autiiors own express desire,
only the few particulars of his life, with which
he prefaced his last publication.
Duncan Macintyre was born in Glenorchay,
Argyleshire, in the year 1724. The chief a-
musement of his youth was fowling and fishing.
He served in the Royal army at the battle of
Falkirk, in the year 1745,—Afterwards, was
appointed Forrester to the Right Honourable
the Earl of Breadalbane, in Coire-Cheathaich
and Beinn-Dourain ; and thereafter to his Grace
the Duke of Argyle, in Buachill-Eite. He
