N. B. In the following flieets, the quiefcent dh at the end
of word.s, is generally omitted, when the next words begin with
a confonant.—This abbreviation (which never effeft- the root
or etymology of the word,) is often marked with an apoftrophe,
efpfcially near the beginning, that fuch as have' been in the life
of feeing thofe letters, might be at no lofs till they are become
familiar to. the want of them. The rule of caol ri caol has like-
wife been laid afide in compound words, which can but feldom
admit of it. A few other alteration- (which it would perhaps
be too much to make at once,) would Amplify the Gaelic or¬
thography, and bring it to a near correfpondence with the
pronunciation. *
