In the parish churchyard two Covenanters are thus celebrated : —
"Here lyes the corps of John Semple, who was shot by Kirkiron
at command of Cornet James Douglas. Also here lyes Thomas
McLagan, who was shot uncertain by whom, for their adherence to
the word of God and the covenanted work of Eeformation."
PARISH OF DUNDONALD.
In the churchyard a gravestone is inscribed —
" Heir lye ye corpis of ane honovrable . man, callit David
Hameltovne, of Bothelhavche, spovs to Elesovne Sanclar in his
tyme, qvha desisit the 14 of Merche, 1619."
Janet MacFadzon, a pedlar's wife, who died in 1761, has on her
tombstone these lines : —
" Now, reader, wonder think it none,
Tho' I do speak that am a stone
For in this place here lyes her dust,
And I do keep it but in trust ;
Twenty-four years I lived a maiden life,
And three years I was a married wife.
In time I lived a happie life,
I travelled with him from town to town,
Until by death I was cut down ;
I in my sister's house did die,
And here at Crosbie kirk I ly ;
Where I my rest and sleep will take.
Until at last I be awaked ;
