Of the Bishop's two sons, James the younger became
Commissary of Brechin. He married his cousin, Barbara
Henderson, and had a son, Charles, baptized 25th Sep-
tember 1683 ;- he died .«?.;?.
David, elder son of Bishop Strachan, studied at tlio
University of St Andrews, and in 1G62 was ordained
minister of the first charge, Montrose. He died 2d July
1672, aged thirty-three, leaving a son, James, and a
daughter, Margaret.
James Strachan, only surviving son of the Rev. David
Strachan, w^as styled of Woodside ; he married,^ and left a
son, James, and a daughter, Margaret. James entered the
Royal Navy, and became a lieutenant ; he died, s.j).
Margaret, about the year 1727, became second wife of
Alexander Wyse of Lunan, and ancestress of the present
heir-of-line to the House of Strachan."
' In his Fasti (vol. iii. pp. 866 and 890), Dr Scott supplies a siiort sketch of
Bishop Strachan. He descrilies him as "descended from the family of Inchtalls
(Inchtuthill), a hranch of the House of Tliorntoun."
