against the Spaniards, with the losseofmuch of his owne blood and the lyves
of many of his souldiers. Then wes he maid governor of Bergen-op-zom by
Prince Maurice his excellence, and therefter maid colonell of a Scottish Regi-
ment" (Earls of Sutherland, 180).
