land, and immediatlie eftir his cuming paft to Temptallonn, and brocht
furth thairof Mr Saidlair, Inglifman.
Vpoun the xvj day of December, thair came ane herald out of Ing-
land callit Harie Jlaa, and gaif vj) peace betuix Scotland and Ingland.
In this menetyme the quenis grace drowarie paft on her fute to our
Lady Laureit, praying for peace amang hir lordis with the realme of
Ingland, and remaynit thair be the fpace of xx dayis in hir prayeris.
Vpoun the day of Januare, the erllis of Angus, Lennox, Caf-
iillis, and lord Kilmawris, gadderit ane greit armie, to the nomber of
foure thowfand, and come to Leith. And als George Dowglas came
fra Berwick, with v c of Merfs men to the governour, and come that
nycht to Muflilburgh. And thair the erle of Bothwill with the toun
of Edinburgh cheft the faid men out of Myflilburghe, and thair tuik
Symiune Pannago, capitane of Coldinghame, with lindrie vtheris ; and
the faid George fled to the faid goA r ernour to Stirling, with mony of
the faid men who was with him, and thai come to Edinburgh, and
thair he remanit with his lordis, and the reft lay ftill at Leith fyve or
lax dayis readdie for battell. The cardinall with the erle of Argyle
come to the governour with ane greit oift, and lindrie lordis with
thame, and the reft come in the governonris will thair ; the faid George
Dowglas was wardit in the caftell of Edinburgh, for the guid rewle of
himfelf ; and the erle Cainllis and lord Kilmawris wardit ficlyk : The
erle of Lennox fuld haue delyuerit the money come out of France,
and the caftell of Dunbartane, quha flaw away, and wald not give na
pledge nor na vther thing.
