ISEIK abowte this warld onstable,
To find a1 sentence conveniable;
Bot I can not in all my witt,

And foulis in forrest that sang cleir,
Now walkis5 with ane drerie cheir,6
Full cauld ar bayth thair beddis and bouris. 15
So nixt to symmer, wynter bene ;
Nixt eftir confort, cairis keine;
Nixt eftir myd7 nycht, the2 myrthfull morrow;
Nixt eftir joy, ay cwmis sorrow :
So is this warld, and ay hes bene. 20
