THE GOLDYN TARGE.

RYGHT as the stern of day begouth to schyne,
Quhen gone to bed war Vesper and Lucyne,
I raise,1 and by a rosere2 did me rest;
Wp sprang the goldyn candill matutyne,
With clere depurit bemes cristallyne, 5
Glading the mery3 foulis in thair nest;
Or Phebus’ was in purpur cape4 revest
Wp raise5 the lark, the hevyns6 menstrale fyne
In May, in till a morow myrthfullest.
Full angellike thir birdis sang thair houris 10
Within thair courtyns7 grene, in to8 thair bouris,
Apparalit quhite9 and red, wyth blomes10 suete;
Anamalit11 was the felde wyth all colouris,
The perly droppis schake in silvir schouris,
