'Kraft durch Freude!'

('Strength through Joy!')

The 'Kraft durch Freude!' (KdF) programme was funded by compulsory deductions taken from German workers' wages. It provided leisure activities for the workers, such as cruises, sports facilities and other entertainments. The KdF also set up production of an affordable car, the KdF-Wagen, which became the VW Beetle.

This leaflet contrasts the excitement at the development of the car with the grim picture of dead German soldiers in an army vehicle.
