Contents:
Mainly from justiciary records, with many related docs. printed in notes and appendices. The covering dates for the various vols. and pts. refer to trials held in these years; many of the related docs. fall outside these dates, and vol. iii pt. 2 has docs. relating to trials dealt with in earlier pts. The work was originally issued in ten parts (dated 1829-33) with title pages reading Criminal trials and other proceedings before the High Court of Justiciary in Scotland ... On completion new title pages were issued, all dated 1833. Those for volumes for general sale were titled Criminal trials in Scotland, from A.D. MCCCCLXXXVIII to A.D. MDCXXIV. Embracing the entire reigns of James IV and V, Mary Queen of Scots, and James VI. Compiled from the original records and mss. With historical illustrations and notes ... These sets are usually bound as 3 vols. in 4, vol. i being divided into 2 pts., or as 3 vols. in 6, all three vols. being in two pts. Some of these general sale sets have been inserted in runs of the Bannatyne and Maitland Club (the work was also issued as 15.19) publications, but the sets originally intended for the clubs had title pages reading as indicated at the opening of this entry, and instructions were issued for binding them as follows:
