Captain Hay, R.N. Commander George James Hay, C.B. R.N. was born in Croydon, Surrey in 1797, the second son of General Sir James Hay, K.C.H. He and his wife, Georgina Middleton Whiteford, were later living in Hastings. Captain Hay died on 21st October, 1862, and there is a memorial stone to him and his older brother, Colonel William Hay, in Greyfriars Kirkyard, Edinburgh. The Fife boatyard built a yawl for him called the “Georgina”; this appeared in the Yard List in 1859, which seems too late to be the “Georgina” pictured on p. 5 of volume 1.Date: Unknown
