The Living Tradition

Ceòlas is rooted within the Gàidhlig heartland of South Uist and is a distillation of the island’s culture and heritage.

Sgoil Chiùil Na Gàidhealtachd, also known as The National Centre of Excellence and Plockton Music School, was established in 2000.

While drawing on the rich traditions of Gaelic music, many organisations, groups and artists are keeping Gaelic music alive today by re-interpreting it for 21st century audiences and creating a vibrant, thriving music scene enjoyed by audiences worldwide. These organisations are just two examples of how the living tradition is keeping Gaelic music fresh and engaging for both performers and audiences.
