Foundation: 1870.
Object: The International Arbitration League has only one condition of association
— support of arbitration as a substitute for war. A High Court of Nations was in its
original objects, and the Hague Tribunal seemed to achieve it, but it now looks to a
League of Nations, endowed with the power to enforce its will, as the means by which
a durable peace, based on justice, can be secured, and a general, simultaneous, and
substantial reduction of armaments effected, with a view to their ultimate abolition.
Members : All who agree with the above.
Governing Body : A Council.
Officers: President: The Right Hon. C. W. Bowerman.
Chairman: Alderman John Joy, J.P.
Secretary: R. C. Hawkin.
Finances : Income derived from annual subscriptions and donations, and from
the Cremer Trust.
Activities : General propaganda, making a feature of the League of Nations and its
work, and also that of the Permanent Court of International Justice and the International
Labour Office ; lectures in schools, etc.; membership of the International Peace Bureau
at Geneva.
Historical Facts: Founder, William Randal Cremer, afterwards knighted by
King Edward VII for his work on behalf of peace ; he also founded the Inter-Parliamentary
Union and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

INTERNATIONAL CHRISTIAN PEACE FELLOWSHIP.
FONDATION INTERNATIONALE CHRETIENNE POUR LA PAIX.

Foundation : 1916.
Object: To unite for consultation, educational and propaganda purposes members
and adherents of all Christian communities in all lands who affirm that war and prepara¬
tion for war are incompatible with the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Members : Membership is open to all communities, groups and individuals who
accept this basic principle.
Governing Body: Representatives of various denominational peace fellowships ;
also a limited number of individuals elected at the annual Assembly.
Officers: Chairman: The Rt. Hon. Lord Allen, of Hurtwood.
Vice-Chairman: The Rev. A. G. Billings, M.A.
Secretary: The Rev. Herbert Dunnico, M.P., J.P.
Finance : The funds are derived from the subscriptions of affiliated organisations.
Activities : Conferences, literature, sermons, meetings, primarily among the churches
of Great Britain, Ireland, the United States of America and the British Colonies.
Historical Facts : Founded during the war at the Memorial Hall, London, by the
Rev. Herbert Dunnico, Dr. Stanley Mellor and Dr. Richard Roberts.
