form, or supply the texts of the treaties.
Note.—In the case of laws, regulations or treaties not drawn up in French or English,
the supply with the texts of a translation in one of the latter languages (if such translation
exists or can conveniently be provided) would be greatly appreciated and would greatly
facilitate the accomplishment of the work decided upon by the Assembly.
NOTE
(Inclusion of Information as to Criminal Causes.)
The publication contemplated by the Assembly was confined to procedure in civil
causes and the Governments were so informed in the questionnaire sent them by the
Secretariat. In a certain number of cases, however, information has been supplied as
to the assistance obtainable by poor persons in criminal proceedings. Having this
information at its disposal, the Secretariat decided to utilise it by including it in the
present volume; in some cases, indeed, it was closely connected with the information
given as to the procedure in civil causes. It is to be understood, however, that absence
of such information for any country does not mean that it has no system of legal aid
for the poor in criminal causes.
