club in Soul the Russian Minister
presiding. He has drawn for me
3 maps one being a route map in
[central] Korea.
I hope if I reach home to have the
book as nearly complete as is
possible without some statistics
made up to the end of 96. My friends
urged my remaining until the end
of this month in order to give the
book the advantage of a chapter
on “Seoul in 1897.”
So far as I can judge the M.S. will
make one good sized volume.
I don’t think that anyone could
make Korea a popular subject.
I earnestly hope that
your Christmas has been bright
ened by the restored health of
Mrs Murray and a continued
improvement in that of the “Baby”
and that I shall hear good news
of you all if I live to return.
The snow lies deep under a cloud
less sky and I think that my
9 hours journey in an open
chair to-morrow in an “[unclear]
contribution outfit” will be
very pleasant.
