23.  Human lymph has been used in the following districts to the extent
shown after each:—Ganjám Hill Tracts 1,121, Ellore Range 973, Anantapur
Range 17, as also in 153 cases by medical subordinates.

24.  During the year 6,440 deaths from small-pox have been registered or 929
less than last year.

25.  In accordance with G.O., No. 523, Public, dated 6th July 1893, the
attached diagrams have been prepared to show the effects of protection on the
death-rates from small-pox in each district and municipality. The figures are for
ten years. The remarks in the report for 1893-94 are again applicable and need
not be repeated.

26.  During the year one Deputy has been dismissed for submitting fraudu-
lent diaries, three have been suspended for periods of three months each, three
have been fined for indolence and irregularities in their work, and the conduct of
two is still under consideration by the Sanitary Commissioner.

27.  The service books of Deputy Inspectors have been brought up to date
with the exception of one Deputy newly appointed, which is now under verification.

28.   Surgeon-Major Mallins inspected and reported upon 15 municipalities,
viz., Anantapur, Bellary, Cuddapah, Anakápalle, Bimlipatam, Dindigul, Madura,
Palni, Periyakulam, Cuddalore, Vellore, Tirupati, Wallajapet, Srírangam and
Trichinopoly, as well as 117 villages and unions. During these tours, in addition
to 5,088 school children, of whom 931 or 18.3 per cent. were unprotected and
648 or 12.7 per cent. marked with small-pox, he examined 7,720 children of the
general population under 10 years of age. Of these 2,436 or 31.6 per cent. were
unprotected, and 504 or 6.5 per cent. were marked with small-pox. From the
vaccinators' registers 3,420 cases were verified, of which 3,108 or 90.9 per cent.
were successful.

29.  I would here tender my best thanks to Surgeon-Major C. Mallins for
the very full notes on vaccination he left for my guidance, of which I have largely
availed myself.

I have the honour to be,
                                                                        Sir,
                                                      Your most obedient servant,
