The Basim, Akola and Buldana Superintendents ought to have been able to
visit a larger percentage of the villages in their districts in which vaccination
work was carried on. Their attention will be called to this point.

The next table shows the inspection work performed by Civil Surgeons in
charge of head-quarter stations:—

Compared with the previous year there has been an increase of 39 in the
number of villages visited, and of 560 in the number of cases verified in head-
quarter circles.

The Civil Surgeons of Akola and Amraoti were not given circles to supervise
on account of their jail duties, neither was the Civil Surgeon of Ellichpur, who
holds the civil surgeoncy as a collateral charge in addition to his military duties.

Statement No. II.—Cost of the De-
partment.

12. Annual Statement No. II. shows the cost
of the special vaccination staff during the year.

The total expenditure incurred aggregated Rs. 16,880-13-7, as compared
with Rs. 16,466-6-6 in the previous year, and the average cost of each successful
case was Rs. 0-3-0, as against Rs. 0-3-6 in 1883-84.

The cost per successful case ranged from Rs. 0-2-4 in the Amraoti District
to Rs. 0-3-3 in Ellichpur.

Dispensary vaccination.

13. Annual Statement No. III. shows the
vaccination performed at dispensaries during the
year.

The total number vaccinated by hospital assistants was 7,617, as compared
with 7,024, which gives an increase of 593 over last year's work.

In the Basim District there was a decrease of 375 operations, and 49 in the
Ellichpur District.

The falling-off in the Basim District was chiefly at the civil hospital, owing
to the work of the town having been carried on by the Municipal vaccinator.
The Civil Surgeon reports that the hospital work fully occupies the time of the
hospital assistant, who operated upon ten cases only during the year.

The following table compares with last year the dispensary vaccination
work performed in each district:—
