Result with glycerinated
lymph.
24. Glycerinated vaccine, which has during this
period been brought into general use throughout British
Territory (excepting Sind) has given fairly good
results.
Animal vaccination.
25. In the Western and Gujarát Registration
Districts no animal lymph was used. In other districts
calf-to-arm vaccination was in force on a small scale.
Vaccine Depôt, Belgaum.
26. The scheme for an " Animal Vaccine Depôt " at Belgaum for the manu-
facture of preserved lymph has been sanctioned by
Government. The plans and estimates, the latter
amounting to Rs. 1,43,096, have been sanctioned.
The buildings are now under construction.
Cost of vaccination.
Statement No. II.
27. The total cost on account of vaccination for the Presidency, including
all charges, was Rs. 2,93,940-8-9. The successful
cases, excluding work performed in the dispensaries,
were 554,222.
The average cost for each successful case was annas 8 and pies 6 against
annas 9 and pies six in 1906-07 and annas 8 and pies 3 in 1905-06.
There was an increase under all heads (except Provincial) which was due to
the employment of additional Vaccinators and the cost of pony allowance sanc-
tioned to certain Vaccinators.
The decrease under Provincial is due to the difference in the pay drawn by
the Deputy Sanitary Commissioners and to the expenses of the lymph procured
from the Vaccine Depôt, Belgaum, being excluded; the latter expenses being met
with by contributions from Local Fund.
