difficulty to the supply of calves.

Animal vaccination in Sind
Registration District.

32. In the Sind Registration District animal vaccination was carried on in
the town of Karáchi without any opposition through-
out the year. The calf lymph was supplied from

Calves inoculated.

33.     Of the 1,141 calves inoculated at 17 towns carrying on animal vaccina-
tion work only 6 were reported as having failed and 5
of these failures occurred in Belgaum Town. The work

is very satisfactory. The scope of it has been increasing and it is hoped may
increase especially in the large towns and so do away with any opposition shown.

34.    The total expenditure on account of vaccination is shown in the
following table and is compared with the preceding year:—

There was a decrease in expenditure under all establishments. It was due
to the absence of Deputy Sanitary Commissioners on furlough; to the discon-
tinuance of grain compensation to Vaccinators and peons; to there being no
additional establishment and to the abolition of the appointment of one Inspec-
tor and one Vaccinator and a peon. The successful cases, excluding dispensaries,
amounted to 461,799, and the average cost for each successful case is annas nine
and pies five against annas eight and pies two in the previous year.
