Native State Vaccinators.
Statement No. I.

21. The Native State Vaccinators operated primarily 51,356 times—
successful 48,864 or 95.28 per cent., unsuccessful 774,
unknown 1,718, and there were 74 excess operations.
There were 8,404 re-vaccinations of which 5,845 were
successful or 69.55 per cent., 1,021 unsuccessful and 1,538 unknown. The work
in every district has decreased, but chiefly in the Southern Registration District
in which 24,375 persons less than last year were operated on.

Cantonment Vaccinators.
Statement No. I.

22. The Cantonment Vaccinators did 1,600 primary operations, 1,460
or 91.59 per cent. being successful, 32 unsuccessful
and 108 unknown, 6 operations being in excess.

In re-vaccination there were 519 operations, successful 346 or 66.60 per
cent., unsuccessful 54 and unknown 119.

There is one Vaccinator for the Cantonment of Poona, and the Kirkee
Cantonment shares one with the Poona Suburban Municipality. There is also
a joint Municipal and Cantonment Vaccinator at Málegaon. Vaccination in the
Deoláli Cantonment is performed under the Medical Officer in charge of the
Station Hospital. In the Ahmedabad Cantonment vaccination is performed by
the Medical Officer, Sadar Bazár Dispensary. Their work shows a decrease both
in primary and re-vaccination, chiefly in the latter, and is most noticeable in the
Central Registration District. The Gujarát Registration District shows a slight
increase. The total decrease is 1,309 over last year's figures.

Dispensary work.
Statement No. III.

23. At five Dispensaries there were 1,293 operations, of which 1,069 or
82.68 per cent. were successful, 114 unsuccessful and
110 unknown.

They did 1,436 re-vaccinations, 829 or 57.03 per cent. being successful,
515 unsuccessful and 92 remaining unknown. The work done for the present
year shows an increase and is due chiefly to the increased work at Bushire.
The work at Shaikh Othman being performed by Municipal Vaccinators, is
included under that head.

Average number of opera-
tions by each Vaccinator.

24. The average number of persons vaccinated by each Vaccinator
amounted to 1,222 this year, as against 1,548 last
year, the Municipal Vaccinators heading the list with
1,330 and the Local Fund Vaccinators being next with
1,283.

English Lymph.

25. No English lymph was received during the
year.

Lymph supply.

26. The quality of the lymph supply remained good. Lymph was
supplied by the Deputy Sanitary Commissioner,
Central Registration District, to the Medical Officer,
Chakrata, Kotah and Jhaláwad, Lucknow, Mahábaleshwar, Mátheran and Puran-
dhar; by the Deputy Sanitary Commissioner, Gujarát, to the Medical Officers,
Sádra, Ahmedabad Central Prison, Junágadh-Porbander Railway. In the
Presidency Circle there were 637 applications for lymph, against 565 in 1900-
1901. The total number of tubes issued was 3,224 against 5,908 in the pre-
ceding year. Of these 1,074 were supplied free of charge to Civil Surgeons,
Deputy Sanitary Commissioners, the Medical Officers in charge of Army
Hospitals in the mofussil, and to the Medical Officers in charge of His Majesty's
troopships in the harbour. The remaining 2,150 tubes were sold to private
parties in the city as well as in the mofussil. The glycerinated lymph prepared
by the Superintendent, Presidency Circle, was supplied to Mengo Uganda
Protectorate, and from the lymph thus supplied 18 persons were vaccinated, of
whom three were successful, and from these three others were successfully
vaccinated, about 1,000 being vaccinated from the lymph propagated from these
three cases. Inoculated calves were supplied as under :—1 to the Railway
Surgeon, Budnera, 1 to the Railway Surgeon, Bhusával, and 1 to the Panvel
Municipality.
