Sex.

14. There were 379,467 males and 357,044 females primarily vaccinated
and 55,136 males and 19,076 females revaccinated, the
totals of persons operated on "being 434,603 males and
376,120 females. In primary vaccination the sex percentages were respectively
51.52 males and 48.48 females. In revaccination the percentages were respect-
ively 74.30 and 25.70 and in total operations 53.67 and 46.33.

Caste or Race.

15. During the year there were primarily vaccinated 3,916 Christians,
550,925 Hindus, 121,228 Mussalmáns, 1,387 Pársis and
59,055 persons of other castes.

Age.

16.. The age details are compiled for three periods, viz., under 1 year,
between 1 and 6 years, and above 6 years. The num-
bers under each period primarily vaccinated were
579,140,140,780 and 16,591. The number of infants successfully vaccinated was
539,174; of children between 1 and 6 years 128,566, and of persons of other
ages 12,293.

Inspection work of Deputy
Sanitary Commissioners.

17. The following table shows the amount of inspection work done during
the working season of the year 1896-97 and the time
spent in inspection in each Collectorate by the Deputy
Sanitary Commissioners as required by paragraph 5 of
Government Resolution in the General Department, No. 2980 of 24th August
1893. It has already been explained that owing to the large area of the districts
and the various duties connected with sanitary inspection of important towns, it
is impossible for the Deputy Sanitary Commissioners to visit every táluka for
thorough vaccination inspection oftener than once in two years :—
