Compulsory Vaccination.
95. The Compulsory Vaccination Act (No. I of 1877) has been in force
in Bombay city for 12 years and is worked fairly well
in the absence of a proper work-shop and implements.
The following table shows the progress in the protection of infants during the
last 14 years, the first two being before, and the last 12 after, the introduction
of the Act:—

96. The Compulsary Vaccination Act (No. IV of 1879) has been in force
for 10 years in Karachi city, and it will be seen from
the following table that great improvement has been
effected in the number of infants protected :—

Suggestions for the more
effectual spread of Vaccina-
tion.
97. Dr. Channer in his annual report makes the following remarks :—
" During the year I impressed on the municipal
commissioners of Gadag the desirability of introducing
animal vaccination in the Gadag-Bettigeri towns, and
I am glad to report they have sanctioned Rs. 300 for
the purpose. There will now be 3 animal vaccine stations in the Dhárwár
Collectorate, viz., Dhárwár. Hubli and Gadag. The Belgaum Municipality still,
however, withhold their sanction, although I personally, during my tour,
addressed them on the subject. They refused to provide any fund, mainly on
the grounds that the choice and purchase of heifers should be in the hands of
the Municipality. This difficulty, which is really only a matter of detail, I hope
to overcome in time.
