BOMBAY PRESIDENCY. 13
for Káthiáwár, 3 for Pálanpur and 1 for Khairpur—are still required. The
present establishment of vaccinators worked amongst a population of 8,999,616
persons. The numbers primarily vaccinated were 308,408 and re-vaccinated
13,088: of these 294,002 and 9,347 or 95.33 and 71.42 per cent. respectively
were successful. The unsuccessful and unknown in primary vaccination were
6,760 and 8,412 and in re-vaccination 2,205 and 1,540. There were 766
secondary operations and 3 repetitions of re-vaccination. Out of every 1,000
of population 33.71 were successfully operated on against 33.85 last year. The
total cost amounted to Rs. 61,151-6-2, which gives annas 3 and pies 3 per
each successful case. The average number of persons operated on by each
vaccinator was 1,891.

31. Vaccination was carried on in 33 dispensaries, or 15 less than in the
preceding year. The following table shows the pro-

A decrease of 1,224 is shown in all the districts except the Presidency Circle
in which there was no primary vaccination work. In re-vaccination there is a
slight increase in the Southern and Eastern Gujarát Registration Districts, but
in the total operations there is a net decrease of 1,218 as compared with last year.
There were 5,479 persons primarily vaccinated and 380 re-vaccinated. The
respective numbers of successful cases were 4,800 and 225. The percentages of
success were 87.61 and 59.21 against 89.81 and 60.70 last year. The unsuccess-
ful and unknown were 218 and 475 in primary vaccination and 131 and 30 in
re-vaccination. The number of secondary operations was 14 and of persons
re-vaccinated more than once 6.
