unknown were respectively 1,135 and 3,011, and 1,666 and 3,967 under each kind
of operations. There were 207 secondary operations and 6 cases of revaccina-
tion were repeated.

Work of Local Fund Vac-
cinators.

29. The following table shows the work of Local
Fund vaccinators for each of the five registration
districts:—

From the foregoing table it will be observed that there is a slight increase in
primary vaccination in the Central but considerable in the Southern Registration
Districts. In re-vaccination work an increase is shown in the two districts just nam-
ed and also in Eastern Gujarát. There is a net increase of 3,218 in the total opera-
tions. This year there were 284 vaccinators and 39 candidates against 280 and 37
in the previous year, as 4 additional vaccinators and 2 candidates were entertained
during the year. The Local Fund vaccinators worked amongst a population of
14,611,187. They primarily vaccinated 509,306 and re-vaccinated 30,044 persons.
The number primarily vaccinated successfully was 482,945 and re-vaccinated
successfully 18,750 or 94.82 and 62.41 per cent. respectively. The rate of
protection per mille of population was 34.43. The total cost amounted
to Rs. 89,221-12-4, and each successful case cost annas 2 and pies 9. The unsuc-
cessful in each kind of operations were respectively 6,561 and 5,960, and the
unknown were 20,741 and 5,350. There were 941 secondary operations and 16
re-vaccinations repeated. Each vaccinator on an average operated on 1,899
persons.

Work of Native State Vac-
cinators.

30. The following table shows the work of
Native State vaccinators in 5 districts and 4 circles :—

In primary vaccination there is a slight increase in the Native States of the
Western, Central and Southern Registration Districts and also in Cutch, but a
considerable decrease is shown in Eastern and Western Gujarát, Sind, Baroda and
Khelat. In re-vaccination there is a slight decrease in the States of the Western
and Central Registration Districts, and also in the Western Gujarát, Baroda and
Cutch Circles, but an increase in the rest. There is a net decrease of 711 in the
total operations. There are 170 vaccinators against 163 last year. The States
of Mevás and Southern Marátha Jághírs have entertained the services of 7
additional vaccinators. An Inspector for the Mahi Kántha Agency and 17
