The total number of persons vaccinated during the past year has amounted to 1,203, being
an increase of 272 over the year 1862. Of this number 723 were males, the remainder
females. Of children vaccinated under one year, the number amounts to 696, above that age
to 507. Of the various castes, Hindoos, as has ever been the case in Broach and its vicinity,
greatly preponderate ; they never, or rarely ever, raise objections concerning religious or
other caste prejudices, such as are frequently met with in the Mussulman and Parsee com-
munities. The increase this year may be attributed to the more steady working of the
vaccination establishment, and to a better acquaintance with the people, which the present
incumbent has gained.
