8. Conduct of prisoners.—The number of jail punishments of all kinds
inflicted was 227 as com pared with 169 in 1911. They are classed as below :—

9.  There was only one escape from the jail during the year under review.
The prisoner escaped was recaptured and sentenced to six months rigorous
imprisonment in addition to his original sentence for the offence.

10.  Health.—The general health of the prisoners was good throughout
the year. The number of admissions to the Jail Hospital was 275 against 227 in
1911. There was only one death as compared with 2 in 1911.

11.  Juvenile offenders.—There was no juvenile prisoner in the Jail on
1st January 1912. 12 boys were admitted during the year under review.
All being released no juvenile remained in the jail at the close of the year.
No prison offence was recorded against them during the year.

12.  Jail manufactures.—The profit from jail manufactures amounted
to R2,993-6-6 against R487-13-1 in 1911 and the average earning per head
of prisoners employed on Jail manufactures consequently rose from R3-6-11
in 1911 to R26-5-5 in 1912.

13.  Expenditure.—The total expenditure in guarding and maintaining
the prisoners including that incurred (1) by the Public Works Department on
the buildings and repairs and (2) by Magistrates in guarding and maintain-
ing under-trials, amounted to R26,063-1-9. The average cost per prisoner
during the year was R79-5-1 against R98-7-1 in the preceding year.

14. The Jail was inspected once by the Hon'ble the Chief Commissioner,
Ajmer-Merwara and four times by the Commissioner and Inspector-General
of Jails, Ajmer-Merwara.
