20. In the Faizabad district Abul Hussan Tahsíldár of Birhar,
Jugeshur Upadhya Zemindár of Oosuroo, Bákar and Mozuffer Hussein
Talukdárs of Akbarpur and the relatives of the late Máhárájah Maun
Singh rendered much assistance to the Vaccinators.

Rája Amir Hussein Khán
of Mahmudabad, the Rájah
of Bhinga and the late
Chaudhari Hushmat Ali lent
their help.

21. Raja Amir Hussein Khan of Mahmudabád in Sítápur, the
Rájah of Bhingá in Bharaich and the late Chaudharí Hushmut Alí of
Sandila took as before, much interest in vaccination.

Vaccination better received
in Gonda and Unáo, but not
generally elsewhere as yet.

22.    The Civil Surgeons of Gonda and Unáo report that vaccin-
ation was more acceptable than hitherto to the people of those districts
but generally the vaccinators were received with the same degree of
repugnance as before.

23.    No doubt the example set by influential native gentlemen is
producing an effect, and a little more perseverance on our part will be
crowned with success.

Apathy of the Tahsíldár
of Mohunlálganj.

24. The Deputy Superintendent of Vaccination reports that the
Tahsíldár of Mohanlálganj gave very little or no assistance to the
Vaccinators posted in his Tahsíl, notwithstanding the instructions of the
Deputy Commissioner.

Distribution of Vaccina-
tors.

25. The Vaccinators paid by Government were disposed of in the
following way:—fifteen were retained in the Lucknow District, of whom
ten were posted to the Lucknow Tahsíl, three to the Mulliabád Tahsíl,
and two to that of Mohunlálganj, four were sent to work in the Faizabad
district where one was posted to each of the Parganahs Faizabad, Tanda,
Akbarpur and Shaganj.

Two were sent to the Rái Barelí District, one of whom was posted to
the Sadr Tahsíl and the other to that of Máhárájganj.

Two were sent to the Sítápur district and both of them worked in
and around the civil station.

Lastly, one Vaccinator from the Establishment was sent to each of
the other districts where they mostly carried on operations in the Sadr
station and the adjacent villages.

Total number of opera-
tions.

26.    The total number of persons vaccinated during the past season
was 37,663 against 16,016 of the preceding year, or more than double
the number in 1870-71.

27.    Of these, 16,776 were performed by the men paid by the Go-
vernment, 20,449 by the Local Fund Vaccinators and 438 by one Vaccin-
ator temporarily entertained in Unáo.

28.    The greatest number of operations was in Sítápur where four
operators vaccinated 5,206 persons and the least in Pratábgarh viz: 1462.
