Proceedings of the Hon'ble the Agent to the Governor-General and Chief Commissioner, North-West Frontier
                                                Province, No. 1371-G., dated 21st July 1905.

READ—

Letter from the Administrative Medical Officer, North-West Frontier Province, No. 2647-V.,
dated the 1st July 1905, submitting the annual returns of the working of the Vaccination
Department in the North-West Frontier Province for the year 1904-05.

REMARKS.—Small-pox was not much in evidence during the year,
but in the settled districts of the Province (which in the report are incorrectly
termed Notified Areas) the number of persons vaccinated was practically the
same as usual. In the trans-frontier Agencies—except Chitral—where a consi-
derable proportion of the population was vaccinated in 1903—but little vacci-
nation work has been done, and the people generally adhere to their own
primitive system of inoculation. A satisfactory beginning has, however, been
made in the Kurram and Tochi.

2.    The Chief Commissioner agrees with Colonel Harington, I. M. S.,
in thinking that the Vaccination Act, which is already in force in the towns of
Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan, might with advantage be extended to
other towns of the Province, especially to Peshawar. But the initiative should
be taken by the Local Bodies concerned.

3.    The Administrative Medical Officer's proposals for procuring locally
an adequate supply of vaccine lymph are awaited by the Chief Commissioner.

4.    The thanks of the Chief Commissioner are due to Lieutenant-
Colonel Weir, I. M. S., for his administration of the department and to Lieute-
nant-Colonel Harington, I. M. S., for his report.

ORDER.—Ordered, that the above Remarks be communicated to the
Administrative Medical Officer, North-West Frontier Province, for informa-
tion ; also that they be forwarded with the Report to the Government of India.

By order of the Hon'ble the Agent to the Governor-
                                    General and Chief Commissioner,

                                                      E. B. HOWELL,

Assistant Secretary to the Hon'ble the Agent to the
                        Governor-General and Chief Commissioner,

                              North-West Frontier Province.
