Operations in the 1st circle.
13. The total number of persons vaccinated in the 1st circle was 296,963, as com-
pared with 303,679 in 1891-92, and 300,039 in
1890-91, and the successful primary operations
numbered 255,726, against 245,746 in 1891-92, and 248,041 in 1890-91. Although
the actual operations were less the number of successful vaccinations was greater than
in former years, and Dr. Jameson reports that " the quality of the work done this
season was exceptionally good." Of the 12 districts of the 1st circle, five districts
and the Native State Tehri show a slight increase, and six districts a considerable
nerease in successful primary operations. There has thus been improvement in the
record of successful primary vaccinations in every district of the circle except Agra.
Excluding the hill tracts the number of persons successfully vaccinated per 1,000 of
population in the various districts ranged from 19.90 in Mainpuri and 20.05 in
Farukhabad to the high figure of 30.46 in Muttra. The following table shows the in-
crease or decrease in the number of successful primary vaccinations in the various
districts of the 1st circle :—

Operations in the 2nd Circle.
14. Four hundred and fifty thousand one hundred and fifteen persons were vacci-
nated in the 2nd circle, as compared with 404,237
in 1891-92, and 334,359 in 1890-91, and the num-
ber of successful primary operations was 367,259 against 328,884 in 1891-92 and
274,975 in 1890-91. There was a great increase of 10,961 in the number of successful
primary operations in the district of Rae Bareli, 9,822 in Partábgarh, 9,335 in
Fyzabad, 5,577 in Sitapur, 5,404 in Kheri, and 5,367 in Hardoi, and a considerable
increase of 4,382 in Lucknow, 2,327 in Unao, 1,899 in Pilibhít, and 1,386 in Gonda.
A slight increase of 774 in Badaun, 669 in Naini Tál, 466 in Bareilly was recorded.
A great decrease of 11,057 occurred in Sultánpur, 6,748 in Bara Banki, and a
considerable decrease of 1,106 in Bijnor. There was a slight decrease of 927 in
Almora and 188 in Bahraich. Operations remained stationary in the districts of
Moradabad and Sháhjahánpur.
The decrease in the districts of Sultánpur and Bara Banki was due to the transfer
of certain district officers, whose zeal and energy in the cause of vaccination was very
marked during the period of their administration of those districts.
