This man, whose name is that of a Hindoo female, was sent
into the asylum without any previous history.
Was always sick, being subject to diarrhœa, cough, and
general debility. The apex of right lung was in a
disorganized state from tubercular disease. The apex
of left lung was infiltrated with crude tubercles. Large
unhealthy ulcers in rectum.

This was a hopeless case from the beginning. The heart
was atrophied, weighing only 3½ oz. Masses of softened
tubercular matter were found in left lung; miliary
tubercles in right. Numerous unhealthy circular ulcers
in rectum and colon.

Skull small and deformed. Brain only weighed 1lb. 14½ oz.
White matter defective. Right lung in an incipient
stage of gangrene. In left lung several unhealthy
tubercular cavities were found.

Some time before death he was pushed by another lunatic.
He fell and broke the left radius. From this accident
his health suffered. An ulcer formed in front of left
arm, which ultimately sloughed. Probably the conse-
quence of pyæmia, pneumonia was excited which termi-
nated fatally. No pyæmic abcesses were found, but
patches of dark venous congestion were observed in left
lung. The right lung was in the inflammatory state of
pneumonia.

Improved for some time after admission, but a sudden
attack of fever and pneumonia killed him.
Right lung consolidated. Its whole substance was infil-
trated with purulent matter. Left lung in less advanced
stage. No ulceration of bowels was detected, but here
and there patches of congestion.

Yellow softening of
the brain.

On the surface of the anterior lobe of left hemisphere
was a superficial patch of yellow softening. The " corpora
striata" were also very soft. The brain was unusually
heavy.
The maniacal attack continued with lessened violence to
the day of death. He suddenly fell into a collapsed
state.
