8. The accompanying eleven tables give in detail the statistics of the asylum
for the year. Table IX shows the cash accounts. It will be seen that Rs. 102-2-9
have been realized from the sale of vegetables, &c., and this amount has been
expended for the asylum in preparing coir rolls, in giving entertainments, &c.
9. No epidemics have occurred during the year. There have been no escapes.
10. Second-class Hospital Assistant M. Lingasen, No. 957, still continues to
do his arduous duties in a most exemplary manner : he is kind, but firm, to the
inmates and they all like him.
Head Warder Isaac was considered unfit for his post by my predecessor and
by myself on taking charge; he has improved somewhat, but I do not think he is
capable of managing the inmates properly.
The warders have not given me all the satisfaction I would wish. They have
been repeatedly fined for negligence of duty. I hope to give a better report of
them next year.
11. Vaccination has been regularly kept up.
I certify that the orders respecting the custody of poisonous drugs issued by
the Principal Inspector-General, Indian Medical Department, dated 23rd January
1863, are carefully carried out.
(Signed) H. D. COOK, M.B., Surgeon,
Superintendent, Lunatic Asylum.
(Signed) J. WILSON,
Deputy Surgeon-General, I.M.D.,
Southern District.
