sources for examinations and report.

9.     Autopsy.—With a view to ellucidate the cause of death post-
mortem examinations were conducted on carcasses of animals which died
in the College Hospitals as well as on those received from outside sources
for such examination and report.

10.     The senior students were instructed in the method of conducting
routine post-mortem examination and to submit reports in the prescribed
form. Demonstrations were, as usual, given on cases considered
important and in collecting and preserving viscera for chemical analysis.

11.     Examination of bone-meal, hides and other skins.—Samples of
bone-meal, hides and skins, intended for export to New Zealand and
Australia, were biologically and bacteriologically examined for Anthrax
and other pathogenic organisms.

12.     Preparation of Auto-Vaccines.—Autogenous vaccines were, as
usual, prepared for the College Hospitals and private practitioners.

13.     Serum supply and distribution.—The number of requisitions
for sera and vaccines amounted to 575 during the year and the total
number of transactions over 1,000 against 377 and 800, respectively, of
previous year. Altogether 170,500 unit doses of Anti-rinderpest serum
(vide Appendix B), 19,510 unit doses of Anti-hæmorrhagic Septicæmia
Serum, 350 unit doses of H. S. Vaccine, 2,960 unit doses of Anti-
anthrax Serum, 1,060 unit doses of Black Quarter Serum, 200 unit
doses of Black Quarter Aggression, 144 unit doses of Mallein and 4 unit
doses of Tuberculin were supplied and expended during the year. A
detailed statement of expenditure is appended (vide Appendix D). With
the introduction of up-to-date method of stocking and account-keeping
the work in this section has considerably increased and the Laboratory
staff had to work at high pressure even during holidays.

                                    Extra Routine Activities.

Babu Binode B. Banerjee held charge of this section in addition to
his other duties as College Manager.

1.     A few details of the activities of this Section are given below.

2.     Fodder Cultivation.—The following varieties of fodder crops
were grown during the year, by rotation, in the College compound:—

Lucerne (Australian).

Clover (Hunter).

Carrots (English, Belgium

Gram.

and Indian).

Bazra.

Guinea grass.

Mashkalai.

Oats.

Barley.

Maize.

Wheat.

Paddy.

Peas.

Napier grass.

The Government animals and hospital patients were fed on these
crops as they were available during the year.
