Treatment of animals.—(1) In-patients.—The total number of
in-patients admitted and treated during the year was 177.

(2)   Out-patients.—The number of out-patients was 14.

(3)  Cruelty cases.—Sixty-eight horses were sent by the Bankshall
and Alipore Courts in connection with convictions under Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals Act. Out of the above number of horses, 58 were
admitted as in-patients for treatment and rest and the remaining 10
were humanely destroyed in accordance with the Principal's final
opinion given to the trying Magistrate.

70.    Practical training of students in hospital clinics.—Students of
the College were, as usual, given practical training in hospital practice
regarding dressing and treatment of animals.

71.     Shoeing forge.—There is a well equipped shoeing forge
attached to this hospital, where horses and cattle are shoed with ordinary
as well as surgical shoes.

72.     In addition to the Government ponies and horses and draught
cattle which were shod regularly, 62 horses belonging to private owners
were so dealt with during the year.

73.     Government animals.—Four new ponies were purchased during
the year to replace the four disabled ones—three of which were for the
riding school and one for fodder cart work.

74.     Cattle ward.—Babu S. N. Sinha, g.b.v.c., was in charge of
this ward from the beginning of the year till 31st August, when he
was promoted to a Lecturership in Veterinary Surgery and Obstetrics.
Babu W. C. Bhadra, G.B.V.C., took charge from him from 1st September
1929.

75.    During the year 602 cattle, 473 buffaloes and 45 other animals
were treated as in-patients, out of which 236 cattle and 401 buffaloes
were sent by the Magistrate, in connection with the Cruelty Act, for
various ailments.

76.     As out-patients 1,516 animals were treated during the year.

77.     Operations.—During the year 192 operations were performed.

78.     Outbreaks.—During the year, three rinderpest outbreaks
occurred in this ward amongst cruelty cases, but by prompt
precautionary measures plus inoculation with anti-renderpest serum,
there were no casualties. Six hundred and fifty head of cattle were
inoculated.

79.     Sanitation.—Sanitation of the ward good. This year a few
more improvements were made to the cattle sheds.

80.     Dog ward.—Maulvi A. Latiff, g.b.v.c., was in charge.

81.     This ward was open for the treatment of cases and clinical
study by students throughout the year under review. Two officers of
the Civil Veterinary Department, Bengal, and two officers of the
Calcutta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals went through
"Refresher Courses" here for a few months before they were put in
charge of canine hospitals in their respective departments. Many
important cases from outside the presidency were sent for major
operations. Many new drugs released for use in human medicine were
experimented with here on unclaimed dog patients. The results were
noted and applied and demonstrated to the students. Cases undergoing
Pasteur's anti-rabic vaccination here are on the increase (as per summary
