the improvement of Siri cattle in the district of Darjeeling, and a herd
of 28 heifers and 2 bulls was imported by Government from Bhutan and
handed over to the St. Andrew's Colonial Homes under certain conditions.

59.     I have twice inspected the cattle, which are in fairly good condition,
and in a few years will, I think, be quite a good herd.

60.     Table IX shows the working of this farm during the year.

61.     Horse and pony stallion. — There was no horse or pony stallion in the
province. Tables X, XI and XII are therefore blank.

65.     The following is a brief account of the work performed by the
Inspectors:—

(1)  Inspector M. S. Chowdhuri was in charge of the Rajshahi Division
throughout the year. He was on tour for 183 days, and travelled 8,752 miles
by rail, 452 miles by river and 709 miles by road. He inspected the
dispensaries and work of the Veterinary Assistants at Jalpaiguri, Siliguri,

Pabna and Serajganj thrice and Darjeeling and Alipur-Duars four times
each. He also inspected the stud bulls and Government cattle of Rangpur
and Rajshahi- Agricultural Farms. He attended four outbreaks of glanders
at Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Rangpur. Five cases were detected and
destroyed, and one suspected case died before testing. Four in contact animals
were tested with mallein.

(2)  Inspector P. C. Sarkar was in charge of the Dacca Division throughout
the year, with the exception of about three months when he was on privilege
leave. During his absence Babu M. P. Ghose held charge. He was on tour
for 160 days during the above period, and travelled 1,361 miles by rail, 2,057
miles by steamer and 1,057 miles by country boat and road. He visited
Tangail once, Narainganj, Kishorganj, Netrakona, Jamalpur and Faridpur
twice each, Mymensingh and Madaripur thrice each and Barisal seven times,
and inspected the work of the Veterinary Assistants of those places. He also
visited 104 villages to check inoculation work of the Veterinary Assistants and
to attend outbreaks of rinderpest, hæmorrhagic septicæmia and foot and mouth
diseases. He attended three outbreaks of glanders at Muktagacha, Kishorganj
and Barisal. Nine horses were destroyed and two died of the disease.

Babu M. P. Ghose was on tour for 51 days. He inspected the work of the
Veterinary Assistants of Dacca, Narainganj, Faridpur, Madaripur, Tangail,

(3) Inspector N. N. Mazumdar was in charge of the Presidency Division
throughout the year. He spent 174 days on tour and travelled 5,155 miles
by rail and 1,493 miles by road and boat. He was also engaged in dealing with
all the papers relating to the professional work of the Veterinary Assistants in
the province, e,g., checking their returns, indents and diaries, etc. This work
involves much responsibility and tactful management in many cases. He,
however, performed it in a very satisfactory manner.

He inspected the work of the Veterinary Assistants in his circle as
