                        THE BENGAL VETERINARY COLLEGE.

                              GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.

I WAS posted to Bengal on the 15th April and took over formal charge
of the Bengal Veterinary College on the afternoon of the 4th June. I also
held, in addition to my own duties, the charge of the Civil Veterinary Depart-
ment, Bengal, from 22nd April to 27th October, both days included.

                              VETERINARY INSTRUCTION.

2.     Students.—The number of students on the College rolls at the begin-
ning of the session was 107 in the 3 classes, which number dwindled to 99 at
the close of the session. They consisted of 72 Hindus, 22 Muhammadans,
3 Christians and 2 Budhists. Fifty-eight students came from Bengal, 12 from
Bihar, 6 from Orissa, 8 from Assam, 8 from Madras, 1 from Burma, 1 from
Ceylon, 3 from the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh, 1 from Port Blair
and 1 from the Malay States

3.     The examinations began on 3rd March and ended on 12th. The
results of the examinations together with the report of the Board of Examiners
were communicated to Government.

4.     The following table shows the number of students at the beginning
and end of the session and the results of the examinations: —

5.     Table I shows the main results of the College.

6.     The stipends —Of the 99 students that remained at the end of the
session 88 were in receipt of stipends from various sources, viz.—

            29 from the Government of Bengal,
            7 from the Government of Assam.
            2 from the Government of the United Provinces,
            1 from the Government of Port Blair,
            46 from District and Local Boards,
            1 from a Municipality.
            1 from the Tippera Raj,
            while one held the Shew Bux Bogla scholarship.

7.     The prizes.—The distribution of diplomas, certificates and prizes was
held on the 17th March under the Chairmanship of the Hon'ble Mr. P. C.
Lyon, c.s ., I.C.S., Member of the Bengal Executive Council.

8.     Instructions of Army Transport drivers and nalbunds.—Five men from
the Supplies and Transport Department were trained in nursing and dressing
and two men from Monghyr and one from Assam were trained in horse-
shoeing.
