What is the total land area of the subdivision (cultivated, grazing, and

Not available Total area of subdivision, 426,240 acres ; cultivated
area 340,000 acres.

None ?

How are cattle fed, whether stall-fed or grazed, or both ; and whether
any grain, &c, is allowed ?

Those who keep many cows and bullocks feed them at the stall every
morning and evening, and during the whole day they are allowed to graze.
Those who can afford it give grain also to the cattle. Oil-cakes are freely
given to the cattle.

Neither scarce nor plentiful. It is in patches on roadsides, bustee land, &c.

No.

Can't say the number, but perhaps insufficient.

Generally ¼th of the milk is allowed to the calf.

Generally after eight or nine months. They are fed in the same way as others.
No special fodder. But the se who can afford it and wish to nourish pro-
perly give them oil cake and possibly some green grass. As long as the
cows give milk ; the calves are not weaned.

At what age are bull-calves gelded, and when do they begin work ? ...

After one year the calves are generally gelded. They begin light work
generally after completing, two years. After three years they are worked
harder

Is fodder stored for cattle, and if so, what does it comprise ? ...

Yes. It comprises straw (paddy, kodo, sawan, tangun) and bhusa.

Average yield of milk, and how long after calving do the cows continue
to give milk?

One to two pucka seers a day (morning and evening). Eight or nine months
average.

Average price of local bulls, cows, and bullocks

Bulls never sold or purchased for breeding purposes. Average price of
cows, Rs. 15 or Rs. 16, average price of bullocks Rs. 15, Rs. 25 ordinary
size, large cows, Rs. 40 or Rs. 45. Price varies greatly.
