                  ANNUAL REPORT

                                    OF THE

        Civil Veterinary Department, Bihar and Orissa,
                            for the year 1934-35.

                                  CHAPTER I.

                          General Administration.

I HELD charge of the department for five months during
the year, i.e., from 1st April to 12th April 1934, and again
from 13th November 1934 to 31st March 1935. During the
intervening period of seven months I was on leave, Mr. R. T.
Davis, i.v.s., Principal, Bihar and Orissa Veterinary College,
officiated as Director, Veterinary Services.

2.  As in previous years, the Director held adminis-
trative charge of the Bihar and Orissa Veterinary College
including the control of the Government Cattle Breeding and
Dairy Farm, Patna. The work of the Central Range as well
as the (Veterinary) Disease Investigation Officer, Bihar and
Orissa, was also carried out under the immediate control of the
Director.

3.  While on duty 1 visited 8 districts, viz., Patna,
Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Hazaribagh, Manbhum, Ranchi, Palamau
and Singhbhum, and inspected 29 veterinary hospitals and
dispensaries.

I assisted in purchasing horses at Calcutta for the Mounted
Military Police, Bihar and Orissa, and for the Police Training
College, Hazaribagh.

4.  As a member of the Advisory Board of the Imperial
Council of Agricultural Research I attended the second meeting
of the Board held at New Delhi in February 1935.

5.  A severe outbreak of Equine Anthrax having occurred
among the Mounted Military Police horses at Jamshedpur, I
visited the place and gave personal instructions to the depart-
mental staff and the authorities in charge regarding control
measures.

6.  I acted as a member of the Standing Board of
Examiners of the Bihar and Orissa Veterinary College, Patna,
and examined the students in Surgery, Animal Management
and Shoeing for the annual and diploma examinations of the
College for the 5th session.
