into the country every year and there is almost unlimited scope
for a dairy industry if only the breed of cattle could be improved.
Government are prepared to supply suitable breeding bulls free
of charge but it is for local bodies to maintain them at suitable
centres and educate public opinion on this very important
question.

7.  The disastrous earthquake of the 15th January 1934 is
reported to have been responsible for over 4,000 casualties
amongst cattle. The aftermath of the earthquake raised various
problems of which the more serious consequences were fortu-
nately averted by the prompt relief measures organised by
Government, by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals and by the Bihar Earthquake Distressed Cattle Belief
Committee.

8.  In conclusion, Government in the Ministry of Education
are pleased to thank Major Riley for his efficient administration
of the Department during the year under report. Acknowledg-
ments are also due to Mr. Davis for the annual report.

Bihar and Orissa Gazette and that a copy of it, together with
a copy of the report, be submitted to the Government of India.
