work and partly owing to occupation of the stables, etc., by the
Mounted Military Police. Since it has been started a fair
amount of local work has come in and several horses from
Dinapur are now sent here for shoeing.

28. Riding Ponies and Ambulance.—Two riding ponies
were purchased during the year at a cost of Rs. 1,000 and one
Ambulance with a horse at Rs 700. One pony was presented
by a lady as a gift to the college. These ponies were utilised
for demonstration to the students and also for teaching riding.

                  RESEARCH LABORATORY.

29. Although the Research Officer could not be appointed
until the end of September, 1930, the Laboratory which was
attached to the office of the Director, Civil Veterinary Depart-
ment, Bihar and Orissa, was transferred to this college on the
13th June 1930 along with the staff already working there and
was accommodated in the Laboratory building specially
constructed for same. The work was supervised by me until
the Research Officer was appointed. Since his appointment
the Research Officer has outlined a programme of research in
which some of the important equine and bovine diseases, e.g.,
Kumri, Bursati, Nasal Granuloma, Johne's Disease, Coccidiosis,
Bovine Abortion, have been selected for study. Much headway
in research work could not however be made during the year due
to the late appointment of the Research Officer who naturally
took some time to settle down.

30.  Nasal Granuloma.—An investigation into nasal granu-
loma was started at the Laboratory but could not be proceeded
with as the owners of the animals affected with the disease were
averse to having the growth removed. It is proposed to purchase
affected animals during 1931-32 for experimental purposes.

31. Coccidiosis.—During November last the Research Officer
was deputed to Namkum Vaccine Depôt to study an outbreak
of disease amongst the cattle there. Investigation revealed that
the cattle were suffering from Coccidiosis.

32. Fowl Disease.—A case of a disease in fowls came to
the laboratory for study. This disease is reported to be very
common in this province and is responsible for heavy mortality.
Bacteriological examination of fæces revealed only B. Coli
in this case but as the disease somewhat resembles fowl typhoid,
further investigation will be undertaken.

33. Anthrax.—Interesting observations were made on the
inhibiting influence of other bacteria on anthrax bacillus
isolated from a natural case of anthrax in pony.
