107. Otorrhœa in buffaloes.—397 buffaloes were treated
Successfully in Balasore, Augul, Sambalpur, Singhbhum and
Manbhum.

108. Fowl Typhoid and Fowl Cholera.—Out of 38 cases
treated, 13 were cared.

109. Stringhalt.—12 cases of this disease were treated
successfully in Puri.

110. Bursattee.—I case of bursattee was treated at Puri
with satisfactory result.

                              CHAPTER VIII.

                              EXPENDITURE.

111. The expenditure of the department amounted to
Rs. 7,79,858-8-4 as compared with Rs. 7,17,511-8-6 in the
year 1929-30. Of this, a sum of Rs. 4,42,272-2-4 was spent by
Government and the balance, Rs. 3,37,586-6-0 by the local
bodies. The increase under the head "Provincial" was due to
the opening of the veterinary college and increased expenditure
on serum. Compared with the total provincial revenues, the
expenditure incurred by Government for the department
amounted to *81 per cent.

112. The total receipts of the department during the year
were Rs. 1,21,966 including Rs. 47,190-14-6 derived from the
Patna Cattle Breeding Farm and the veterinary college.

The expenditure under each head is shown in table XIV(A).

                                 CHAPTER IX.

      PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.

113. During the year a new post of inspector under the
Bihar and Orissa Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals was created temporarily and the officer was posted to
Muzaffarpur for work in 4 important municipalities of the Tirhut
Division. During the short period of his appointment, he spent
84 days on tour and detected 443 cases. The inspector who was
posted to Gaya visited the municipalities at Bhagalpur, Purulia
and Ranchi, spent 95 days on tour and detected 323 cases. A
sum of Rs. 3,303 was realized and credited to the Municipal
funds as a result of the prosecutions made by these two
inspectors.

114. The Cruelty Inspector appointed under the Patna City
Municipality sent up 220 cases. Including some pending cases
