the figures show, there is no doubt that the Burdizzo method,
though recently introduced, has become popular.

The above figures have already been included in tables IV
and V.

                                CATTLE FARMS.

73.  Patna Cattle-breeding and Dairy Farm.—Livestock
Inspector Babu N. N. Ghose on completion of his training was
attached to the farm until the end of December 1929 when he
was appointed manager on Rs. 200 per month and as such, relieved
Mr. A. H. Spearman on the 1st January 1930. An agricultural
overseer was also appointed to the new post on Rs. 60—5—150.

74.  On the 1st of April 1929, the staff consisted of
1 manager, 1 veterinary assistant surgeon, 1 clerk, 1 milk
writer and store-keeper, 1 machineman, 1 head sardar, 3
sardars, 4 chaukidars, 1 oil engine and tractor driver, 2
office peons and contingent menials.

75.  The agricultural overseer joined his duties on the 22nd
July 1929, while the services of a veterinary inspector were lent
to the farm from the 5th September 1929. The post of Lorry
driver could not be filled until the 7th February 1930 when the
pay was revised. Two new posts, i.e., 1 blacksmith and 1
forgeman, were created during the year and were filled up from
the 5th and 10th August respectively, 1929.

76.  On 1st April 1929, the farm herd consisted of 42
bullocks, 4 bulls (Tharparkar), 49 cows (Tharparkar), 120 cows
(Desi), 121 male caives, 123 female calves and 1 pony, or a total
of 460 animals. During the year 23 Desi cows with calves were
purchased and 35 Tharparkar calves and 75 cross bred calves
were born on the farm, raising the total to 616. Out of this
number, there were 12 casualties and 20 animals (13 Desi cows
and 7 calves) were sold leaving the total strength of the herd at
584 at the end of the year.

77.  The average number of cows in milk per day during
the year was 90 and the total milk yield was 210,997 lbs.,
or an average of 6.2 lbs. per cow per day.

78.  The total quantity of milk sold during the year was
192,447 lbs. against 203,100 lbs. during the last year, and -130 lbs.
7 ozs. of cream was also sold during the year. Out of
the balance of 18,550 lbs. of milk, 7,372 lbs. was lost in
pasteurization, measuring and bottling etc., 8,600 lbs. was
separated for cream and the remaining 2,578 lbs. was fed to
