Report on the Veterinary Administration of the Manipur State for the year 1913-14.

1.   Personnel*—Babu Krishna Narain, Veterinary Assistant, has continued in charge throughout
the year, under the supervision of the Vice-President, Manipur State Durbar. He has worked very
satisfactorily, as has the compounder, Thokeham Mangaljao Singh. Negotiations are in progress for
.reading the latter to the Belgaehia Veterinary College for training.

2.   Tours.—The Veterinary Assistant visited 121 villages outside the 5-mile radius. He was on
tour for 87 days, travelling 1,004 miles. The decrease in his touring is clue to the fact that there was
no severe outbreak of Rinderpest as in the previous year.

3.   Contagious diseases,—The number of animals known to have died of contagious diseases during
the year under report was 1,839.

Equities.—There has been no record of any contagious disease among ponies.

Bovines,—(a) Rinderpest was reported from only 29 villages, as against 348 in the previous
year, and the number of deaths was only 1,791 as against 25,347. The Veterinary Assistant visited
20 out of the 29 villages affected-

(b) Foot-and-mouth disease broke out in 8 villages, as against four in 1912-13. The Veterinary

occupied from 1st November, 1918. In if there is accommodation for in-patients and 43 were admitted
. the last six months of the year, of which 42 were discharged as cured.

6. OHt-paiients.-These is a decrease in the number of out-patients from 2,607 in the previous
year to 1,664 during the year under report. This is not due to any prejudice against the Veterinary
assistant or the dispensary, but to the com panrative freedom from contagious diseases.

The Veterinary Assistant, performed 14 major and 13 minor operations as against 16 major and
minor operations in the previous year.
