of contagious diseases reported by village officials or detected
by the veterinary staff was 9,288 (10,422), the total mortality

and mouth" alone amounted to 5,740 (6,335), of which 2,346
were in Chhattisgarh.

18.  Rinderpest.—2,150 outbreaks of this disease were
reported against 1,374 of last year, with a mortality of 11,659
(8,057). The disease occurred throughout the province but was
most prevalent in Chhattisgarh Division where 1,232 outbreaks
were recorded. Serious outbreaks occurred also in Akola dis-
trict but these were brought under control promptly. The
total number of animals vaccinated against rinderpest was
475,456 (303,657) as shown below:—

Serumalone method—5,537 (7,001).

Goat blood and tissue virus vaccinations—462,951
(295,222).

Serum simultaneous method—6,968 (1,434).

19.  Haemorrhagic septicaemia.—Outbreaks were 816 as
compared with 1,533 in the previous year. The mortality was
3,485 (7,163). The total vaccinations carried out against this
disease were 161,063 (216,992) as detailed below:—

Serum alone method—1,385 (5,798).

dence of the disease.
