4.—Breeding operations
35. The cattle-breeding farms in this Province were
under the management of the Agriculture Department and
necessary veterinary aid was given by the officers of this
department.
5.—Propaganda
36. Eight cattle fairs and shows were held in differ-
ent parts of the Province and camp veterinary dispen-
saries were opened by the departmental staff and lectures
on veterinary subjects supplemented by practical demon-
strations such as inoculations, castrations, etc., were deli-
vered with the aid of magic lanterns.
37. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals started at Nagpur and Jubbulpore are reported
to be working satisfactorily. A society has also been
formed at Amraoti during the year under report.
III.—ESTABLISHMENT
38. Mr. Rahim Bux, Assistant Director of Veteri-
nary Services, Jubbulpore division, proceeded on leave
for six months and 13 days preparatory to retirement with
effect from the 24th December 1936.
39. Mr. S. S. Ayer, a Senior Veterinary Inspector,
was appointed as officiating Assistant Director of Veteri-
nary Services, Nagpur division, from the 12th December
1936, vice Mr. Syed Mahmud Ali, who was posted as
Assistant Director of Veterinary Services, Laboratory.
40. Mr. K. B. Pillai was appointed as officiating
Assistant Director of Veterinary Services, Jubbulpore
division, vice Mr. Rahim Bux granted leave.
41. Mr. Syed Mahmud Ali was confirmed as Assist-
ant Director of Veterinary Services with effect from the
21st April 1936.
42. Subordinate Establishment.—The strength of
the Veterinary Inspectors during the year was 11, of whom
Mr. N. S. Pathak continued to work as Assistant Market-
ing Officer, Central Provinces, and Messrs. S. S. Ayer
and K. B. Pillay were promoted as officiating Assistant
Directors of Veterinary Services.
43. The strength of the Veterinary Assistant Sur-
geons at the close of the year was 141. During the year
