                  VI—GENERAL REMARKS.

31.The reporting of contagions disease still leaves a great room
for improvement. Outbreaks are often reported very late, with the
result that it is more difficult and expensive to control the disease.
In several cases disease was reported by Tapedars only when they
came to know of the intended arrival of the Deputy Collector or the
Collector of the district. When the Veterinary Assistant Surgeon
arrived on the scene, the disease was found to have existed some
weeks previously and had died out. Although individual cases of
negligence and incorrect reports were reported and dealt with, the
Tapedars have not yet realised the importance of reporting disease
among animals.

32.Owing to financial stringency, touring by Veterinary Assis-
tant Surgeons for the purpose of castration and treatment of
ordinary diseases had to be curtailed considerably.

33.Twenty-four horses (13 from Basrah and 11 from England),
18 cattle and 53 sheep from England, were landed at the port of
Karachi, in addition to 367 mules, 12 asses and 15 mares from
United States of America, belonging to the Military Department.
Last year only 24 horses were landed.

34.At the request of the Agricultural Adviser to the Govern-
ment of India, the following programme of work for the next year
is included in the annual report.

The energies of the department will be directed towards the
investigation of certain diseases and application of modern methods
of treatment, both curative and prophylactic.
