Frontier districts and 23 died, as against 329 attacks and 53 deaths
in the previous year.

20.    Surra.—Three camels were attacked in the Karachi and
Thar Parkar districts and all died or were destroyed, against 13
attacks and 5 deaths in the previous year.

21.     Other contagious diseases.—Included Distemper, Mange,
Distomiasis and Piroplasmosis. One hundred and nineteen animals
were attacked and 18 died.

                                Preventive Measures.

22.    In seventy four outbreaks of Rinderpest, 7,407 animals were
inoculated with anti-Rinderpest serum, as
compared with 8,029 inoculations performed
in the previous year. In the course of these outbreaks, 1,335
uninoculated and 132 inoculated animals died.

23.    Two thousand and twenty five animals were inoculated with
Hœmorrhagic Septicæmia Protective serum in 15 outbreaks as
compared with 737 inoculations performed in the previous year.
One hundred and sixty one uninoculated and 3 inoculated animals
died in the course of these outbreaks.

                                    Other Diseases.

Table IV.

24.    The number of villages visited by the Veterinary Assistant
Surgeons was 1,245 against 598 in the pre-
vious year. During their tours, they treated
2,031 cases for contagious and 1,178 for non-contagious diseases and
performed 9 castrations as against 2,101 cases treated for contagious
and 341 for non-contagious diseases and 1 castration performed in
the previous year. The increase in the number of villages visited
and in the number of cases treated for non-contagious diseases is
due to the monthly tours of Veterinary Assistant Surgeons having
been reopened in December of the year under report.

                                    Investigation.

25.    During the year under report, 66 specimens from suspicious
cases of Surra, Piroplasmosis, Sarcoptic Mange, Fowl Cholera,
Hœmorrhagic Septicæmia, Anthrax, Epizootic Lymphangitis and
Black Quarter were submitted by the Veterinary Assitant Surgeons
to the Superintendent, Civil Veterinary Department, for examina-
tion and, of these, 28 were confirmed. In addition, 21 brains from
cases of Rabies were submitted for examination to the Director,
Bombay Bacteriological Laboratory.

                            Veterinary Dispensaries.

26. There were seventeen veterinary dispensaries at the beginn-
ing of the year. The one at Umerkote, owing
to the Thar Parkar District Local Board's
financial stringency and the unpopularity of the dispensary, was
closed in February 1924, leaving 16 at the close of the year. The
total number of patients treated at the dispensaries was 23,503
