17.    Foot-and-mouth disease.—One thousand, six hundred and
sixty-two sheep and goats were attacked and 232 young stock died
in the Sukkur district. This outbreak was reported very late and
most of the deaths bad occurred before the arrival of the Veterinary
Assistant.

18.    Contagious pleuro-pneumonia.—One hundred and thirty-
one animals were attacked and 101 died in the Hyderabad and
Larkana districts.

19.    Surra.—Thirteen camels were attacked and 5 died in the
Karachi district. One camel was attacked and died in the Larkana
district. A case of Surra in a dog also occurred in the latter
district and was destroyed.

20.    Anthrax.—Three outbreaks among goats with 28 deaths
were reported from the Sukkur district.

21. Rabies.—Thirty-four dogs and 1 goat were attacked.
They all died or were destroyed. Of these, 32 cases were reported
from Karachi town.

22. Other contagions diseases.—Included parasitic bronchitis,
piroplasmosis, distemper and mange. Three hundred and forty-
eight animals were attacked and 219 died.

                                    Preventive Measures.

23.    In 51 outbreaks of Rinderpest, 8,029 animals were
inoculated with anti-rinderpest serum.
In the course of these outbreaks, 882
uninoculated and 74 inoculated animals died.

24.    Seven hundred and thirty-seven cattle were inoculated
with Hœmorrhagic Septicæmia serum in 7 outbreaks. Eighty-
eight uninoculated animals died in the course of the outbreaks
and 7 deaths occurred amongst inoculated animals.

                                        Other diseases.

25.    The number of villages visited by the Veterinary
Assistants was 598 as against 2,470 in
the previous year. During their tours
they treated 2,101 cases for contagious diseases and 341 cases for
non-coatagious diseases and castrated 1 animal as against 2,297
cases for contagious and 2,444 cases of non-contagious diseases and
18 castrations in the previous year. The decrease in the number
of villages visited and in the number of cases treated on tour is due
to the monthly tours of the Veterinary Assistants having been
stopped, in order to exercise economy in public expenditure.

                                            Investigations.

26.    During the year under report, 32 specimens from
suspicious cases of Surra, Piroplasmosis, Anthrax, Mange and
Filariasis were sent by the Veterinary Assistants to the Superin-
tendent for microscopical examination and of these 22 cases were
confirmed. In addition, 11 brains from cases of Rabies were
submitted for examination to the Pasteur Institute, Kasauli, and
all were confirmed.
