Number served by Govern-
ment stallions.

31. There is a slight increase in the total number of mares covered, viz.
1,894 against 1,869 last year, although the actual num-
ber of stallions at stud work remained practically the
same.

                                    (3).—Produce.

Number foaled.

32. There is a slight increase in the average of mares covered per stallion
over last year and a fairly satisfactory increase in the
number foaled : 615 against 550 last year. The
average produce per stallion, 11.03 against 8.69 last year, shows improvement,
but these results are still far from satisfactory and the figures unreliable, as will
be seen from the following remarks by the District Officers in Sind :—

The Collector of Hyderabad—

" The very small percentage of successful coverings is striking. It is probably due to
the owners of mares giving false information as to results,"
