Resolution.—Mr. Grainger appears to have moved actively about the
Presidency during the year under review. He
visited the marginally named districts of the
Presidency proper and Sind, as also Deesa,
Pálanpur and parts of Mahi Kántha, Cutch
and Beluchistán. He attended the Horse-
shows at Poona, Rájkot, Ahmednagar, Jacobabad, Sibi, Bhúj and Ahmedabad.
In the course of his tour and at the various shows he branded a considerable
number of mares and inspected the Government stallions. Mr. Grainger com-
plains that the date originally fixed for the Ahmednagar show was subsequently
changed by the Show Committee and that he was not informed of the change of
date in time to enable him to avoid making an useless visit there. The omis-
sion on the part of the Show Committee is to be regretted.

2. There were on the Superintendent's register at the beginning of the
year 49 horse and 35 pony stallions. Of these one died during the year
and 3 were cast for unfitness; but to replace these three stallions were purchased
locally. Including those stationed in Beluchistán, the total number of horse
stallions in the Superintendent's charge at the end of the year was 104, of which
48 were in the Deccan and Southern Marátha Country, 11 in Gujarát, 24 in
Sind and Cutch, and 21 in Beluchistán. In the course of his inspection
at Ahmedabad Mr. Grainger brought to the notice of the District officers
the fact that the stallions were not getting sufficient exercise, and it is hoped
that due weight will be given to his opinion and to the remarks by the Director
of Land Records and Agriculture in paragraph 10 of his memorandum. With
reference to paragraph 84 of his report the Superintendent should be requested
to submit, in communication with the local authorities concerned, through the
Director of Land Records and Agriculture separate proposals showing definitely
what stable accommodation is required at the several stations mentioned in that
paragraph, what will be the cost of providing it, and how the charge should be
met.

3. During the year under review 1,046 mares in all were branded as
against 1,078 in the previous year. It appears from the statistics furnished in
